Biography
Virginia Myers, age 88, passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, on Monday, January 18, 2010. She was born in Starbuck MN, on August 24, 1921 to the late Knute and Ida (Mickelson) Overson. Virginia was united in marriage to Keith T. Myers who preceded her in death on May 2, 1994.
She worked for the OPA in Glenwood, Minnesota during WWII and was later
employed at the Wisconsin Tissue Mills as an Administrative Assistant in the Art Department from 1964 until 1980.
Virginia was very active in the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, in Enderlin, North Dakota in the 1950’s. She was elected as the first President of that newly founded organization. She maintained a lifelong interest in sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Many beautiful afghans are showcased in her friends’ and family’s homes. She was an avid reader and collected a large personal library. She was never without her current read. She also enjoyed golf, which she learned when her family moved to Menasha in the 1960’s.
Virginia is survived by two sons: Stephen Myers, of Menasha, and David (Bonnie) Myers, of Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandchildren: David (Katrina) Myers, and their children Melissa and Michelle of Memphis, Tennessee; and Laura (Timothy “TJ”) Johnson; and their children: Madeleine and Samantha Virginia of Concord, North Carolina; and many of her friends and relatives. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers: Boyd, Eugene, and Kermit Overson; and one sister; Irene (Rostad).
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at Martens-Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee St. Menasha. Rev. Rich Engle will officiate. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Virginia’s name to help the relief efforts in Haiti.
