Mitchell, Joseph August
Menasha

Joseph A. Mitchell, age 93, passed away unexpectedly, in his sleep, on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Joe was born on July 7, 1916, in Appleton, son of the late Louis and Josephine Mitchell. Joe was united in marriage to Lorraine Gavronski on June 9, 1951, at St. John Catholic Church in Menasha. Joe had been a member of St. John’s for most of his life. He was a pressman at Wisconsin Tissue Mills for 38 years until his retirement.

At his son’s cabin in Price County, Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and spending time with his family. He loved classical music, crossword puzzles and playing cards, especially poker. He loved watching reruns of old TV shows, like MASH and watching ESPN following sports especially the Packers and the Brewers. One of Joe’s passions was gardening; this was something he enjoyed doing until he couldn’t anymore. When unable to attend church, he would watch the Masses and pray the Rosary daily. Joe was a family man that will be greatly missed by his loving family.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lorraine; their two children: Glen (Tammy) Mitchell and Jeanne (Bill) Vanlandghen; two grandchildren: Rachael (fiancé Brandon Ciske) Mitchell; Timmy Mitchell – future Marine; brother-in-law, George (Norma) Gavronski; sisters-in-law: Rosemary (Grant) Beckett; and Betty Held; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery, Town of Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
